I hung all six of these in my backyard between two oak trees that are exactly 14 feet apart. That's my standard test distance because it's the most common tree spacing people actually find. I also set up a few on my hammock stand to check compatibility, since I know from experience that the end loops on some new hammocks are fatter and won't accept the S-hooks you already have.
For a full week I rotated through these things. I'm 6'2" and about 195 pounds, so I'm right in the zone where standard hammocks start to feel short. I tested the diagonal lay, measured sag after an hour of hanging, and checked fabric stretch overnight.
I also ran the 3 AM comfort test, which means I actually slept in each one, woke up disoriented, and decided whether to go back to sleep or stumble inside.
Juniper, my border collie mix, claimed the Extra Large as hers within five minutes. That's her vote.
Analysis & test results
Each hammock was tested on diagonal lay, fabric softness, strap durability, and packability. The two metrics that separated the field were width and strap length.
The diagonal lay is where tall people win or lose. A standard 108-inch hammock gives you maybe 7 feet of usable diagonal space. That sounds like enough, but once you account for the gathered ends eating up fabric on each side, you're down to about 6 feet of flat surface.
For anyone over 6 feet, that means your calves are pressing against the fabric wall. The Camping Hammock at 118 inches solved this, and the Extra Large at 115 inches came close.
Strap length mattered more than I expected. The Durable Hammock came with 10-foot straps, which was fine for my oak trees, but when I tested on a pair of wider pines, I needed every inch. The Brazilian Double Hammock's straps were the shortest of the group, and I had to use a separate extension to make it work.
Fabric softness was consistent across the parachute nylon options. The Wise Owl was the softest out of the bag, but the Extra Large broke in nicely after a day. The Brazilian Double is cotton, which feels amazing against skin but holds dew like a sponge. I woke up damp twice.
Camping Hammock
This is the one I kept going back to. At 118 inches long and 80 inches wide, it's the biggest hammock in this test by a meaningful margin. (Note: actual fabric is 215T parachute nylon, not 210T.) When I lay diagonal, my head and feet both have clearance. That's rare.

The 210T nylon taffeta is the same fabric you'll find on hammocks costing three times as much. It's soft enough to not feel coarse against the skin and packs down to about the size of a cantaloupe. The 772-pound capacity rating is overkill for most people, but it means the stitching is solid.
I hung this at chest height and by the time I got in, I was an inch from the ground. You'll want to hang this higher than you think you should because it has a lot of stretch once you put weight in it. That's true of every hammock, but the extra fabric on this one makes it more pronounced.
The straps are 10 feet long with 14 adjustable loops. That's plenty for most setups. The carabiners are aluminum, which keeps the weight down, and the end loops are sewn, not tied. A tied loop is a failure point, so I appreciate that.
One verified buyer wrote in May, "I'm 6'4" and this is the first hammock I've slept in without my feet going numb." That tracks with my experience.
Extra Large 2 Person Hammock
This one surprised me. The fabric is a bit thicker than the others, which means it feels more substantial and holds up better to Juniper's claws. She claimed it immediately, curling up in the center and looking at me like I was interrupting something.
At 115 inches long and 78 inches wide, it's close to the Camping Hammock in size. The diagonal lay is nearly as good, and for anyone under 6 feet, you probably won't notice the difference. The fabric lets light through, which I felt like was going to be hot, but the airflow underneath keeps you cool.
The weak point is the straps. They're only 9 feet long, which limits your tree spacing options. On wider trees, I had to get creative with the hang angle, and that compromised the lay. If you know your trees are close together, this is a great pick. If you're heading to a campsite with unknown trees, bring extra strapping.
The color options are better than the competition. The dark gray doesn't show dirt, which matters after a muddy weekend.
Durable Hammock
This is the budget pick, and it's honestly better than it has any right to be at this price. The 500-pound capacity is lower than the others, but it's still enough for two average adults or one adult and a dog. The fabric is 210T nylon, same as the pricier options, and it packs down to about the size of a grapefruit.
The width is where it loses points. At 55 inches, it's narrower than the top picks, which means less diagonal room. I'm 6'2" and I could feel the fabric against my calves. For anyone under 5'10", this won't be an issue. For taller folks, it's a compromise you make to save ten bucks.
The straps held up fine on smooth bark, but I'd avoid rough surfaces. My straps did break in the first few uses once, which I think was from the roughness of the ceiling hooks I used. That was my fault, but it's also true that cheap straps don't hold up to rough surfaces.
I have five of these and they don't disappoint. It's the hammock I give as a gift because it's cheap enough to replace and good enough to love.
Brazilian Double Hammock
This is the hammock for hot summer nights. The cotton weave breathes better than any nylon option, and there's a reason Brazilian hammocks have been the standard in South America for generations. The extra-large size gives you plenty of room, and the fringe adds a nice touch.
But cotton has a downside. It holds moisture. I left it up overnight and by morning it was damp with dew. It also takes longer to dry than nylon, which is a problem if you're packing up camp in the morning. And at 3.5 pounds, it's the heaviest hammock in this test by a wide margin.
The straps are the shortest of the group at 8 feet. I needed an extension for my standard 14-foot tree spacing. That's a real inconvenience.
This is a backyard hammock, not a camping hammock. If you're lounging between two oaks with a drink and a book, it's fantastic. If you're backpacking, leave it at home.
Wise Owl Outfitters Camping Hammock
Wise Owl is the name brand in this space, and they've earned their reputation. The fabric is the softest of the group, and the quality control is consistent. I've never gotten a Wise Owl with a bad seam or a broken carabiner.
The sizing is standard, though. At 106 inches long and 55 inches wide, it's the smallest hammock in this test. For someone 5'10" and under, it's perfect. For taller folks, it's the same problem as the Durable Hammock, but at a higher price.
The straps are 9 feet long with 14 loops, which is solid. The stuff sack is better than most, with a compression strap that actually works.
If you're tall, this isn't the pick. If you're average height and want a reliable hammock from a brand that stands behind their products, this is a safe choice.
ANAGOO 2 Person Hammock with Stand
This is a different animal. It comes with a stand, which means you don't need trees. That's a huge advantage if you're using it in a backyard without good hanging spots or indoors.
The stand is sturdy and holds up to 500 pounds. Setup took about 15 minutes, which is longer than hanging a hammock from straps, but it's a one-time thing. The hammock itself is 108 inches long and 59 inches wide, which is standard.
The problem is the stand limits your hang angle. The hammock is attached at a fixed height, so you can't adjust for stretch the way you can with tree straps. I found the lay was slightly less flat than the tree-hung options. It's a minor issue, but for tall people, every inch of flat lay matters.
This is the indoor option or the no-trees option. It's not a backpacking hammock. For what it is, it does the job well.
What else to consider
The SZHLUX hammock is worth a mention. I've tested it separately and it was so good I ended up getting two. It's not in this batch, but if you see it, it's a solid budget pick.
The GAFETE double hammock fits two people pretty comfortably, which is rare. Most doubles are one-person hammocks with extra room. If you're shopping for two, check the actual dimensions before you buy.
Should you buy the Camping Hammock?
If you're over 6 feet and you've been fighting with hammocks that feel like a cocoon wrapped too tight, this is the fix. The extra length and width give you the diagonal room you need to actually lay flat. It's heavier than the ultralight options, but for car camping and backyard lounging, that doesn't matter.
If you're under 5'10", you don't need this much fabric. Save the weight and the money, and grab the Durable Hammock instead. It's twenty bucks and it's the best deal ever.
For everyone else, this is the one I'd buy again. And I probably will, because I keep giving these as gifts and then buying another for myself.
